In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson “What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.” I believe that the greatest capacities for overcoming challenges in life are found in being able to utilize and increase our strengths. As a counselor, my goal is to help my clients become aware of that power and successfully overcome a variety of mental health and life challenges.
I want to provide my clients with an environment where they can be open about these challenges and be understood. I strive to help my clients develop lifelong patterns of thinking and acting based on what is most important to them and help them live the most rewarding and meaningful life they can.
Through the course of therapy, I help my clients process and work through difficult emotions that inevitably occur in life. I enjoy working with OCD (including scrupulosity or religious OCD), PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression.
Kerry practices as a Licensed Master Social Worker. She earned her dual master’s
degrees in social work and Public Administration from Arizona State University.
Kerry has experience working as a school social worker where she has collaborated
with psychologists, counselors, teachers, parents, and school administrators.
Supporting parents with children needing school accommodations if not unfamiliar to
her as she has been advocating for children in the public school systems for the past
nine years.
Kerry’s background is diverse as she first earned her undergraduate degree at Utah
State University in Music Therapy and soon after built a private practice, contracting
with the Division of Developmental Disabilities and serving individuals with
developmental disabilities throughout the Phoenix valley. Kerry also worked in multiple
hospital settings, primarily focusing on patients in the antepartum, postpartum, NICU,
pediatric and geriatric units. Kerry continues to use music in her work as a clinician as
she believes music has the ability to reach the mind, body and spirit when other
modalities cannot.
Kerry is also an instructor at Arizona State University where she teaches a course
based on mindfulness practice and stress management tools. She is passionate about
this as she personally has experienced the difference in her own life when she is
intentional, compassionate toward herself and others, and able to live in the present
moment. It is powerful when you find increased joy in your life as you learn to live in the
present versus focusing on the regrets of the past or the anticipation of the future.
Kerry feels honored to support her clients through their current challenges. Kerry
primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy,
Mindfulness and when appropriate, spirituality as modalities when working with her
clients.
In her free time, Kerry enjoys traveling, writing, gardening, and spending time with her
family ~ especially her new grandbaby.
