I am a Certified Problematic Sex Behavior Therapist (CSAT), which means that I have received extensive specialized training in the treatment of problematic sexual behaviors for the addict and their family. The CSAT training is based on the decades of research completed by Patrick Carnes, the foremost in treatment and research. I believe that treating all affected members of the family is crucial for successful, long-term recovery and freedom from the effects of problematic sexual behavior. I use individual, couples, and group treatments to provide the best possible outcome. I have also received specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IRRT (Information Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy), which allow me to assist individuals, couples, and families who have experienced traumatic events such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, or significant losses that may be contributing to problematic behaviors or adding to betrayal trauma. EMDR is well-researched as an effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). IRRT is effective specifically for individuals experiencing flashbacks of traumatic events, sometimes effective in as little as a few sessions. I have had great success in helping those who have suffered traumatic events, utilizing EMDR and IRRT along with his other therapeutic skills to assist trauma survivors to overcome their emotional distress.
As a marriage and family therapist I am uniquely qualified to assess and treat individuals, couples, and families that are experiencing unhappiness and pain, including in their relationships with each other. I view individuals as being a part of a larger system (marriages, families, friendships, etc.) and am specially trained to draw on the strengths of these systems. I realize that individuals, couples, and families are not isolated from what occurs around them, allowing them to utilize more resources to assist those seeking treatment.
I have been working therapeutically with individuals, couples, and families since 2005. I have worked in various settings that include residential, home-based, and outpatient treatment. My experience includes work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. I have been treating pornography and problematic sexual behaviors at Centerpoint Counseling since 2014, although my interest in treating this population started before I was in graduate school.
